Taking better photos on a walk
You do not need special equipment to bring back good pictures from a walk. A phone camera and a few habits are enough.
Use the light
The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset give long shadows and warm colour. Midday light is flat, so spend it walking and save the camera for the edges of the day.
When the weather is dull, look for details instead of views: lichen on a wall, a gate, a line of trees.
Add a foreground
A view feels deeper when something sits in front of it, such as a stone, a fence post or a walking companion. Crouch down, level the phone, and give the picture a moment before you press the button.
